Gandhi (film)

Last week I watched this famous movie Gandhi directed by Richard Attenborough. Though I watched this movie more than a couple of times long ago, it felt like a fresh movie or may be I was admiring the amazing effort in bringing pre-independence India to life.

There is a particular scene I keep recalling a lot(even after a week). Mahatma Gandhi is fasting to request Indians to stop the Civil Disobedience Movement after the chauri chaura incident, where a police station was burnt and 22 policemen killed when a mob clashed with the police which opened fire.So after a few days of fasting there is a scene where Nehru, Sardar vallabhai patel and others surrounding Gandhi tell him that the civil disobedience movement has come to an end and people are have stopped protesting and giving flowers to any policeman they see on the streets. Gandhi smiles and replies "Perhaps, I overdid it"and gives a brilliant smile. :)

let me end this post with the words spoken at the end of the movie(in Gandhiji's voice)

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it--always."
